Youville Residence Society of Alberta, through its Board of Directors, seeks to provide a unique resource in Calgary. In honouring this commitment the Society has developed its Mission, its Guiding Principles, and a set of Core Values.
Mission Statement
Youville’s mission is to operate residential recovery facilities for women who experience the co-occurring issues of addiction, mental health distress and a history of abuse. In a unique home-like setting, Youville promotes recovery by providing its clients with holistic counselling and programming services that strive to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, occupational, and social needs of each client. For women who are mothers and who might otherwise avoid recovery for fear of being separated from their children, Youville additionally offers accommodations and programs that keep families intact and that allow mothers and their children to remain together during recovery.
Guiding Principles
Youville provides safe, long-term, and family-style residential accommodation to women seeking recovery. Youville ensures the support of professional and compassionate counsellors for the women in their care. Youville promotes healing and facilitates personal growth by providing a unique program appropriate to the individual needs and strengths of each client. Youville guides women through the transition into the community to lead productive and rewarding lives.

History
Youville has a long history in Calgary extending over thirty years. The name "Youville" reflects the loving mission and charitable work of Saint Marguerite d’Youville, Canada’s first Saint and foundress of the Grey Nuns of Montreal. The Grey Nuns provided twenty-five years of continuous dedicated support at Youville by providing both staffing and 100% funding. In 2001, the Grey Nuns turned over the staffing and administration of Youville to our newly formed Society.
The new Society, incorporated in June 2001, now operates Youville as a social service agency consistent with established best practices and has continued the tradition of excellence of service established by the Grey Nuns.
Counsellors are mandated to maintain professional development requirements and direct service standards through ongoing training programs.
In addition to our Volunteer Board, Youville employs a number of volunteers. Youville adheres to the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement, the Donor Bill of Rights for the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and the Code of Ethics for the Alberta College of Social Workers.
"Welcoming women who are in need of
our services regardless of race, colour or
creed, St. Marguerite d'Youville was
known as the mother of universal charity"
